If the bubble wrap arrives, can the earrings be far behind?

For all you people out there who have come to think of me as someone who can be depended on to do the right thing, I have a surprise for you.  Apparently I am either the most inept woman on the planet, or I have got a poltergeist on my shoulder.  On December 9 (my late husbands birthday) one of my auctions on ebay closed with a $4.99 sale.    As with all my auctions, I went and got the product, which happened to be 5 pairs of clip on earrings.  I put them in a box on the buffet and printed my shipping label.   I pride myself in same day shipping so I  stapled the receipt to the invoice, attached the  label to the package and drove over to the shipping center.  A job well done!

That evening I was jacking around in the office and low and behold!  The package with the clip on earrings was on my desk!  Damn!  I immediately emailed the intended recipient and told her that I had inadvertently sent her 13 pairs of pieced earrings which was on the same shelf.  I told her I would immediately get these in the mail and she should keep the pierced  earrings as a penance on my part.  She was very understanding.  I told her she would first receive the pierced earrings and the following day would be her actual purchase.  So, I printed the shipping label, stapled the receipt on top of the first receipt on the invoice and the next morning scurried off to the shipping center.

A day passed and I got an email from the little lady in California that she had received the first box and it contained, not earrings, but empty jewelry bags.  What the hay!  I went to check on my plastic bag supply and what do you think I found?  Nothing!  I went to the desk and what did I see?  Those wretched clip on earrings twinkling at me in their plastic bag.  Grabbing them in my tight little fist I crammed them in the box.  I showed the box to my daughter and together we sealed the box and held it while I printed yet a third label!  This we attached to box, stapled the receipt on top of all the other receipts on the invoice and decided I must be losing it.

Last night I received an email that the second box had arrived and it contained bubble wrap!  By this time I am doubting my sanity completely.  Where are the damn pierced earrings that I so carefully sent the first day?  I have a 2400 square foot house which I have turned upside down and not found them!  They have got to be here some where.  I sent plastic bags, bubble wrap, and clip on earrings (I hope).  Now this is a total of $7.14 to send what should have been one item.  I can see where I am going in the hole here.
My daughter decided that I must be wound a little tight so we needed to relax a bit.  She treated me to a pedicure, which I have not had since Marlene went to Las Vegas and stayed!  That will be reviewed on    Hey! I Been There!  in a day or so.

In the meantime, I am just letting you know that I am NOT infallible!  So if you make an appointment with me and I don't show up, it is nothing personal.  Know also that your secrets are safe with me, not because I am trustworthy, but rather because I forgot them.  If my house looks like a hurrican hit it that is because I am still looking for my MP3 player and those damned pierced earrings!
And thank you, dear Amy, for being so patient with an old woman!

Amy is here and this is where we went.... Bishops Castle above Beulah.

I am just going to post this slide show and then I will be back later.  Ok, now I am back.  Amy got here on Friday, the 6th of January.  I have never known anyone who would drive 3 days and 2000 miles just for the sole purpose of meeting me.  But Amy and I had been visiting in the chat rooms and by email since November 24, 2010.  I know this cause she told me so.  I have never been one to remember dates and I envy her that ability.

So here they came and arrived on Friday night.  Saturday morning we got up and went to Beulah to the coffee shop.  Course Jan was tickled to see me and meet my friends.  I of course, took a lot of pictures. One in particular of a man named Bill Moulton.  Do you recall a hundred years ago when doing the laundry before washing machines there was a divice that looked like an upside down funnel?   In the top of this you placed a stick and then put your clothes in the tub with soap and used that "Easy Washer" to stomp them clean.  Well he did not have the stick in his so he was setting there with the thing on his head and Jan and I decided that he bore a most striking resemblance to the Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz.  So I took several pictures and promised to send him a link when I put him on here.
So the first problem seems that of the 75 pictures I took that morning of Bill, Jan, Beulah, and Bishops Castle , there is no record what so ever.  Gone!  Kaput!  Like my life.  So I called Jan and she will have her son email me copies when he gets around to it.  At that time I shall do a big spread on the Tin Man/Bill Moulton.  And if the kid does not send the pictures, he shall live in my mind.
After we left the coffee shop, we drifted up and I showed them the Dragon Tree carved by John Clay.  Then on up the mountain to Bishop's Castle.  Course it was very snowy up there, but the roads were dry.  That Castle is sure worth the trip up there.  It was uilt from the ground up by one man, Jim Bishop.  He placed every rock and welded every piece of metal.  Fascinating piece of work that will never be completed as long as he is alive, because he will never stop.  Google it.
Sunday we kind of kicked back and they discovered the joys of Colorado Cuisine, namely Green Chile.  Course later we discovered the plumbing was plugged up very tight.  That is another Colorado joy.  After much plunging and cussing we gave up.  Early Monday brought the Septic Tank pumper because when the plumbing doesn't work it is inevitable that it is the tank is full.  Well, for once that was not the case, but since he was here anyway, might as well get that done.  He was followed by the roto rooter guy.  You guessed it, tree roots in the line, so I will get that taken care of this spring.
Then we cleaned up the kitchen and made chicken and noodles with mashed potatoes.  Taught Amy how to make cookies with a cake mix.  Also made a Root Beer Float Cake.  I guess since they had just finished 2000 miles of sight seeing and were getting ready for another 2000 miles of the same thing, sight seeing was not a biggie this weekend.
Then bright and early this morning they hopped in the car and drove away.  I talked to her just a bit ago and they were in Wichita Falls, Texas, and headed for Dallas.  I know I am missing them already.  I know there are those of you out there who may think we are nuts, but so be it.  She did tell me "I can not beleive I did this.  Drove all this way.  I can not believe I did this.  This is crazy!" I know that when I met Amy it was like I had always known her and this weekend just cemented a friendship between Beachgirlbaby and MOUNTAIN MOMMA!
Since Amy really likes snow I was very glad we got a little skiff Saturday night.  Wish I could have talked God into a little more, but then there was that plumbing problem to contend with.

What contitutes friendship?

Isn't this picture pretty?  It was taken at Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  I was there with over 200 acquaintances.  Imagine not being able to say 200 of my friends.  I once told my mother that I had lots of friends.  My mother, a very wise woman,  told me "If you reach the end of your life and you can count your true friends on the fingers of one hand, consider yourself blessed."

Well, here I am with more road behind me than I see in front and those words echo in my mind.  Mother has been gone for too many years now and I find myself more often thinking like she talked.  So, I got to thinking about how many friends I have actually had and are they still around.  For the first eight years of school I had a very best friend.  Her name was Barbara and I spent one night a week at her house.  Never saw her after grade school.

High school is a blur.  Then I married and moved around a lot so friends were hard to come by.  After the divorce I moved back home to Hutch.  There I became best friends with a waitress named Vi.  She had a daughter the same age as my son.  That one stuck through thick and thin and still exists to this very day.  She is a better friend then I am.  She writes, I read.  She calls, I talk.  I moved to Colorado and she moved to Missouri.  We have both buried our husbands.  I got to go see that girl this spring!

The next lasting friend I made was Frank.  We were in business with him and I liked his honesty and all his family.  He is still in business and lives in this town and I have not seen him for several years, but I still count him as friend.  If I called he would be here in a flash and vice versa.

Then came Renate.  Renate listens when I talk and I listen to her.  She is bluntly honest with me when I am wrong.  She and I use each other as sounding boards. We both work with AIDS clients so we have that to commiserate over; that and attending funerals together.

Then along came Kay, who winters in Texas, but we keep in touch and have breakfast every Wednesday when she is here.  We have in depth conversations and do a lot of gossiping.

So you see there is four friends, each perched on a finger.  I only have room for one more!  You know, either my mother was wrong or I am blessed beyond measure because I have a lot of people that I consider very dear friends.  Back home is Evelyn and Kay, Karen, and my sisters.  Shirley in Kansas City.  Amy in Florida. My dear friend Jade.  And all my Internet friends and that is before I start naming the ones here in Pueblo.   I am not even going to go there because someone will get their feelings hurt.

I have friends who have become lovers and lovers who have become friends.  (I like the latter better.)  I am truly blessed in that I can walk into any place in this town and there is someone I know who is very happy to see me, so I am not alone long.  More often than not their name escapes me, but they don't seem to mind.  This impresses me.  Most people want their name remembered, but my friends do not care.  They love me for who I am, not if I remember their name.

I have few rules that my friends must adhere to and failure to do so gets you off my list of friends and you then become a "this is".  So watch out for that one.  If you are still with me here you are my friend, or my dear friend, or my very dear friend.

The first rule of friendship is to always be honest.  I gave up lying because I could not keep my stories straight.  So honesty is paramount.  The truth is what it is and should never be altered.  I respect the truth.  Lie even once and we are done.  The omission of a relevant fact is also a lie or at least it is in my book.  You are my friend because I judged you by your words and actions from the first day I met you.  If you neglected to mention that you are a serial killer in your spare time, don't you think I would want to know that?

I am loyal to my friends and I expect loyalty in return.  If you have something bad to say to me, say it to me, not someone else.  We can work out our differences if we know what they are and we face them head on.  Love has to come naturally, but a friendship is worth working to save.

You must respect that I am a Bleeding Heart Liberal.  You do not have to like it when I work with the AIDS clients, or the battered women, or the illegal immigrants, or pile my car with recyclable crap, or stop and give that homeless woman the money in my pocket, or stand nose to nose with a homophobe in the middle of the library and we get thrown out.  You don't have to  like it but you do have to accept it and if my actions embarrass you are free to just walk away.  Just do not attempt stop me or try to correct me.  I am on a roll!  You are free to voice your opinions and I will respect them, but they are yours and part of your conservatism.  It is best we not discuss politics.  LOL

For the most part I try to adhere to the 10 Commandments and so do my friends.  It is nothing we think about, just sort of comes naturally.  So once more I have digressed from the point of this blog entry.  I came on here to decide who to put  on that last finger to fill out my friend list and discovered that I am going to need a lot more fingers!  I love every body and they love me.  It is called making the world go round.  I can not limit my friends, nor would my dear mother expect me to.  So I will just hang on to what I have when the road comes to an end, I will just look back and see who all is still there!

Another year down the tubes!

Counting today, there are only 5 days left in this year.    Momma nailed it when she said "When you are over the hill you pick up speed...
